Literature Text

I offered you
broken glances and tattered bones
swollen hearts and
too prominent veins
that trace my skin
like ink stains from a pen.
I left my hand-prints
on car windows
like breadcrumbs;
so if I die tomorrow,
you can still find me.

I traced your eye-sockets
with calloused thumbs,
and memorized your
cheekbones,jawline;
by touch.
I left a map of sensation
for you to follow;
so if I die tomorrow,
you can still find me.

I separated your collarbones
with brittle fingertips
and cradled your heart
between my palms
until the memory of their heat
was forever branded in your subconscious
and the contours of my hands
have shaped your soul;
so if I die tomorrow,
you can still find me.

I mailed you shoe boxes
filled with papers,lemons,and heat,
so you could spend hours
trailing my emotions
from invisible ink,
ever reminding you that
my thoughts and heart-beats
could never do more
than love your flaws;
and if I die tomorrow,
you'll still be able to find me.
